England v Denmark Review: Lallana's flair is Le Tissier-esque

Daniel Sturridge scored a late winner as England defeated Denmark, 1-0, in an international friendly last night at Wembley. Sturridge headed in Adam Lallana's cross in the 82nd minute for the game's only goal as England continued preparations for this year's FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Preparations are far from complete, but Wednesday's match will have given Hodgson another chance to evaluate all the players before bringing his final squad to Brazil following the domestic season. England have been drawn in a tricky Group F with four-time champions Italy, two-time champions Uruguay and outsiders Costa Rica.

With Luke Shaw replacing Ashley Cole at half time, making his full senior international debut and Adam Lallana coming on with half an hour to go, the Southampton duo did their World Cup hopes no harm by putting in very good individual performances. Shaw has been tipped for a World Cup place but faces strong competition at left back with Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines also in the limelight for places whilst Adam Lallana offers Roy Hodgson something different in an attacking midfield role.

It looks like Lallana's place on the plane to Brazil is a certainty after setting up Sturridge's winner last night. The Southampton playmaker offers England something different with his flair and ability to pick out a pass or cross. The traits that Lallana holds are similar to that of what we coach in all our sessions at Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching, composure on the ball, awareness and having a 'no fear' approach when in possession of the ball. Southampton's Jay Rodriguez and Rickie Lambert were unused substitutes last night and are both still in contention for World Cup places amongst Roy Hodgson's 23-man squad.

International Friendly Preview: England v Denmark

The clash at Wembley Stadium shapes as an opportunity for several England players to stake their claims for spots on the plane to Brazil. With just three and half months left until the competition, Roy Hodgson needs to make his final decisions on whom to keep in his team. For this, Hodgson has the chance to experiment with a large squad for the friendly with Denmark.

England will be short of defenders as Phil Jagielka, Kyle Walker and Phil Jones are all unavailable. So, instead of picking young Luke Shaw, Hodgson is likely to partner Smalling and Cahill at centre-back with Baines slotting in at left-back.
England’s youngsters Ross Barkley, Raheem Sterling and Luke Shaw will hope for some gametime as they will be looking to impress Roy Hodgson.

These sides have met 4 times in the past and both teams have won twice each. In their last meeting England edged Denmark, beating them by 2-1.

Possible England Starting Line-up v Denmark:

GK Hart; LB Baines, CB Cahill, CB Smalling, RB Johnson; CM Gerrard, CM Wilshere; RM Lallana, CAM Rooney, LM Oxlade-Chamberlain; ST Sturridge

Matt Le Tissier's Prediction: England win 2-0
